I’m not ready to take a ten percent chance on change
I’m amazed that people don’t see how the McCain campaign really is just Bush The Sequel. From WaPo, emphasis mine:
John Feehery, a Republican strategist, said the campaign is entering a stage in which skirmishes over the facts are less important than the dominant themes that are forming voters’ opinions of the candidates.
“The more the New York Times and The Washington Post go after Sarah Palin, the better off she is, because there’s a bigger truth out there and the bigger truths are she’s new, she’s popular in Alaska and she is an insurgent,” Feehery said. “As long as those are out there, these little facts don’t really matter.”
From their sneering condescension toward the media (”they’re just playa-haters!”) to their blatant repetition of outright lies… doesn’t this all seem a little familiar?

And it’s all-too-scary, too! I mean they are telling BLATANT lies, again and again and it seems that the American public is just going with it. No questions. No “we don’t know her.” Hell, not even “where the hell is John McCain?” You know, since HE’s actually running for president.
I’m truly amazed and bewildered at how this is playing out.

Maybe it’s just that american people are so used to be told lies they can’t make the difference with reality anymore…
I live in a country where lies in politics are becoming more and more frequent due to a stupid escalation of intolerance between 2 communities (flemish… walloon… yes, this is Belgium), potentially leading the country to split into to ridiculously small geographic entities. The problem when lies are repeated over time as I see it here in Belgium, is that indeed people at the end starts to believe these are true. Finally, when a new lies comes up they even start not asking themselves if it is true or not.

@Fred – a fellow Belgian! My dad is Flemish, and I lived for a couple years as a kid in a small town outside Antwerp. But yeah, my awareness of the political situation in Belgium is pretty limited these days.
I find the whole thing so frightening because it just seems so Goebbels-esque: keep repeating the lies until they sound true.
